Jun 25, 2025Colin Rice

Calling all weirdos. Welcome to the world of weird and wacky chocolate. This list isn’t for the faint of heart. We’re seeking flavour explorers, chocolate lovers with a curiosity for the creative, and tasters with a taste for adventure. In the world of chocolate, we have our classic chocolate flavours and pairings: orange, mint, caramel, and nuts. Now we’re entering the weirdosphere. Hold onto your stomachs, things are about to get strange.

10. Texas BBQ

Stay with us; we’re starting off big and bold. Beef stock, one of the more unusual ingredients on this list, lends a meaty flavour to this wonderful bar. Tasting almost like a fajita (we know, insane), this bar dares to be tasted. While this may put many people off, the pairing of flavours works incredibly well, and you need to approach it with an open mind.

9. Iron Brew

Scottish staple and household name, Irn Bru, the metallic(?) tasting fizzy drink has been loved by Scots since 1901. Ubiquitous across the country, Quirky chocolatemakers have engineered a popping candy homage to the Irn Bru taste. This fizzy chocolate bar has all the tastes and sensations of popping a can, but with an added chocolatey creaminess to elevate it further.

8. Lemon and Olive Oil

Mediterranean flavour pairing of olive oil and lemon can never miss when we’re talking about pasta, dips or breads. When it comes to chocolate, these flavours seem like they should be kept very far away from each other. Well, we’re happy to report, that Ocelot’s lemon and olive-oil-infused white chocolate is a winner, pairing these flavours expertly, with the oil adding a smoothness to the chocolate and the lemon gently amping up the flavour.

7. Lemongrass

Not an ingredient you’ll see regularly in chocolate, lemongrass, with its floral lemon and ginger taste, is much more likely to be found in soups and curries. However, Pacari has combined it with delicious dark chocolate. As strange as it sounds, lemongrass is a delightful herb and sets this chocolate apart as a flavourful bar.

6. Carrot Cake

Thankfully, this one’s a dessert, but bits of carrot inside a chocolate bar… might be a bitter combo to swallow for even the most adventurous eater. However, what makes it easier to get on board with is how delicious this bar is. It has spicy hints of cinnamon and sweet notes of carrot, bringing a lovely flavour when paired with milk chocolate. All in all, a well-rounded sweet treat.

5. Haggis Spice

Another Scottish staple to join this list alongside Irn Bru, the meaty national dinner dish, traditionally a mix of oats, spices, liver, heart and lungs of a sheep, (and cooked inside the sheep’s stomach) is loved by many. Chocolate Tree has done the unthinkable and taken those spices of rosemary, pepper and coriander and put them inside a dark chocolate bar. The finished recipe is a deliciously complex treat.

4. Salt and Pepper Caramel

Salted caramel is loved by many, with many salted caramel chocolate treats already loved. However, these others don’t contain pepper. Yes, the dinner table duet has been reformed in this chocolate bar by COCO Chocolatier. And the result is perfect harmony. The pepper adds a hint of unique spiciness to the chocolate, with the salt enhancing the caramel flavour and the bar as a whole. Don’t know this one until you try it!

3. Pho Spices

Hailing from Vietnam, Pho has taken the world by storm. A noodle soup dish with spices, fresh herbs and flavours frequently found in Vietnamese cuisine, it has become a regular in street food markets and Asian restaurants. However, this is the first instance we’ve seen of somebody incorporating these flavours into chocolate. Marou, using Vietnamese chocolate, have crafted this intriguing bar that begs to be tried. Delicious and confusing.

2. Maple Bacon Pancake

Another strange breakfast dish, the maple bacon pancake, is a much-adored American treat. This bar incorporates the sweet maple syrup taste with the saltiness of the bacon to create a chocolate bar unlike any you’ve tried before. Pairing the dark chocolate with white chocolate also adds to the sweetness and brings another level of creaminess, almost mirroring milky pancakes.
