Chocolate Tree
Husband and wife team, Ali and Freddie, are extremely passionate about workin directly with cacao farmers, maintaining close relationships and visiting them whenever possible. They aim to both raise their levels of income for the farmers and their families but also to ensure they secure the very best cacao beans for their delicious bean-to-bar chocolate bars. Definitely one of the most ethical companies out there, they are also members of 1% for the Planet, giving 1% of their turnover (10-15% of their family’s income) to good causes every year.
Their bean-to-bar range is made with single-origin chocolates made with beans sourced from various countries in South and Central America. Their Whisky-flavoured bar is made by soaking cacao in the spirit before grinding the beans into smooth yummy chocolate, giving you the most authentic flavour. Using Laphroig single malt, it is a very popular choice in our Tasting Room at The Chocolatarium in Edinburgh.
For a 70% dark chocolate, their Piura stands out as having a distinct single-origin flavour which our visitors often describe as having notes of honey and citrus (this bar won an Academy of Chocolate Gold Award). For a ‘dark milk’ chocolate, their Maranon 60% milk chocolate bar combines the creaminess of milk chocolate with the rich dark fruit flavours of the beans.
Chocolate Tree’s organic range is made with Peruvian chocolate. Some of the most popular flavours among visitors are the Sea Salt & Caramel Dark Chocolate, the Fruit and Nut Milk Chocolate and the oh-so-creamy and fresh Lemon & Poppy Seed White Chocolate.
They also do a fantastic range of single-origin hot chocolate!
