Weird & Wonderful Chocolate
Our Guide to Weird & Wonderful Chocolate
From puddings to alcoholic drinks, there’s a weird yet wonderful chocolate for everyone.
Pudding impersonators
Those who will always find room for dessert will love the Kernow Bannoffee milk chocolate with the flavour of sweet banoffee and honeycomb pieces. Kernow do a brilliant range of pudding-inspired bars - see them all here. If you are more of a breakfast enthusiast, give the Stateside Maple Bacon Pancake a try. The well-loved breakfast staple in a bar of chocolate combines a hint of the saltiness of bacon with the sweetness of butterscotch and maple. It’s even veggie-friendly. This is the No.1 most popular bar at The Chocolatarium in Edinburgh and comes highly recommended!
Alcohol infusions
The two best alcoholic drink-inspired chocolate bars we’ve discovered are Chocolate Tree Whisky Nibs 70% dark chocolate and Lir’s Guinness milk chocolate.
While many whisky-flavoured chocolate bars are made with flavourings, Chocolate Tree are bean-to-bar chocolate makers who soak the cacao beans in whisky (single malt Laphroig no less!). This is the most authentic whisky flavour in a chocolate you can get.
Lir’s Guiness milk chocolate has such an authentic aroma, you’ll think you’ve put your nose in a pint of Guinness!
Mixed with salty snacks
Combining crisps with chocolate might sound unconventional, but works surprisingly well! The Bar of Crisps trio pack consisting of Cheese and Onion, Salt and Vinegar and Lightly Salted is salty, savoury and crunchy but with a chocolat-y twist. The Seed & Bean Salted Pretzel is crunchy with a sprinkle of salt paired with smooth dark chocolate.
Truly Weird and Wonderful
For the most adventurous, we have some truly weird and wonderful chocolate bars. Stateside captures all-american flavours in delicious chocolate bars. The Peanut Butter & Jelly milk chocolate combines creamy peanut butter with fruit jelly pieces and is one of the most moreish chocolate bars you’ll ever taste. Ice Cream Float perfectly imitates this summary treat by combining cola with creamy vanilla and popping candy and tastes just like a cola bottle!
The Texas BBQ* milk chocolate is savoury and full of spices and tastes just like a fajita! This chocolate is truly weird and may not be for everyone!
Capturing the flavour of Japan, Willie’s Cacao Matcha Tea is fresh, grassy with an umami aftertaste. Finally, for a true Scottish classic flavour, try an Irn Bru flavoured milk chocolate bar! Brian and Joanne at the New Chocolate Company just outside Glasgow, have done a brilliant job of capturing he flavours of this well-loved Scottish drink!
